How to Reduce The File Size of JPEG Picture/Image/PhotoDigital cameras produce JPEG pictures that are too large to put directly on web pages. Here is a list of pictures taken a few years ago with a digital camera. What I want to show you is the image size (2048*1056) and the file size (around 1MByte).
Both the file size (>1mbyte) and picture dimensions (>640px) are way too large to place directly onto a web page. If you open the file with Microsoft office picture manager (available with Microsoft office)
If you save the file with a different name (small prefix added) Then you can see the file size has been reduced considerably (1.481kb to 36kb) and the the picture pixel size is also reduced to 448*336px.
The picture is now ready to be added to your web Page. If you don't have Microsoft Picture manager available there are many excellent free image reducers available. I like the:
They also have the advantage that they work in batch mode which means you can resize multiple pictures at once. Many of them also support image size selection so that you can crop them to fit your web page. |
