15 Questions You Should Ask your Prospective Web Designer


If you decide not to build your website yourself put instead employ a web designer it is important that you are clear on exactly what you are getting.

However before you ask questions of the designer make sure you ask yourself some questions. The main one is... why do you want a website? If your answer is... because everyone else has one....then you should probably save yourself the money.

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself:

  • Why do I want a website?
  • Will I need to update the site frequently?
  • Will I sell products from the website?
  • Will I use the website to attract new customers?
  • Will the website simply be a brochure for the company?
  • What will my website visitors expect to see?

Here are some questions you need to ask your designer:

  1. Who owns the finished design (-it should be you).?
  2. How many pages are included in the price.?
  3. How long will it take.?
  4. Is the logo design included in the price?
  5. Will the web pages be optimized for the 3 main search engines?
  6. What keywords are they being optimized for and why?
  7. Will the pages be submitted to the search engines?.
  8. How much will it cost for additional pages?
  9. Do you provide training so you can add pages yourself?.
  10. Do you offer any guarantees?
  11. Who will be hosting the website and how much does it cost?
  12. Will the domain name be registered in your name (should be. You need to own it).
  13. Do you offer any support and how much does it cost?
  14. How much do web design changes cost and how long do they take.
  15. Are there any recurring costs and what are they
