Email forwarding

 Email forwarding allows you to continue to use an existing email account – e.g. an email account provided by your ISP - yourname@ispdomain.com.

Any email messages that are sent to your 'new' address e.g. yourname@yourdomain.com, is automatically redirected to your existing address-yourname@ispdomain.com, just like traditional postal forwarding.

With forwarding normally all email sent to anyone@yourdomain.com will be forwarded to the existing email account for example:

info@yourdomain.com-----> your@ ispdomain.com

sales@yourdomain.com -----> your@ ispdomain.com

admin@yourdomain.com-----> your@ ispdomain.com

POP3 Email Accounts

 POP3 (Post Office Protocol-version 3) accounts are mailboxes on your hosts mail server that hold Email addressed to you. Each POP3 account has a designated addresses, such as you@yourdomain.co.uk.

There are normally two limits imposed 1) The number of mailboxes- between 3 to10 is usually enough

2) The mailbox size in Mbytes -50MB is usually enough.

Email aliases

Using these aliases you can easily set up additional individual addresses for all people and subjects to be handled under your new domain name. Example: sales@yourdomain.co.uk.

These aliases can be diverted to your POP3 accounts or anywhere else. This effectively means that you don't need hundreds of POP3 mailboxes to store mail for different users –-They share a mailbox.

Virus Scanning

 Some providers will automatically scan email for computer viruses. Check to see if all POP3 mailboxes are covered by the virus scanning. Some providers restrict coverage to a limited number of mailboxes.

Spam Filtering

 Some providers provide filtering of Unsolicited commercial email commonly referred to as SPAM. It is the Internet equivalent of junk mail. Lists called black lists are maintained on the Internet of known spammers. The servers automatically servers consult with these databases and refuse email sent from them.

WebMail

 This allows you to access your Emails in your POP3 mailbox by using a browser. You can even send Emails under your own domain name and you don't require a special mail program. Everything is done with the browser.

Autoresponders

This is an automated program that acknowledges receipt of an e-mail message, and then sends back a previously prepared email to the sender, letting them know it was received.

Once you configure your Autoresponder, it sends e-mail with no further action required on your part, making your Web site interactive around the clock. You are normally limited as to the number Autoresponders you can configure.

Configuration is normally via a control panel.

Mailing List Software

 A mailing list allows you to send email to multiple users and for users to subscribe and unsubscribe via email and/or a Web page.

 They are used for newsletter distribution, product promotions and anywhere were you need to send the same message to more than one person. Most companies impose limits on the mailing list size (members) and on the Number of lists.
