Are Ready Made Website Templates for You?Pre made website templates appear at first to be the ideal option to a novice webmaster/website owner. There are however difficulties with them that you should be aware of before you decide to use one. The main problem is that they will need editing. This means that you will need a website/page editor. This isn't really a problem as there numerous editors available . However depending on the editor you use, and the editor settings you may find that the template gets changed to comply with the editor. Even worse the editor may not even display the template correctly because it doesn't support the technology used in the template. Providing your editor works ok with the template you still will need to change the template graphics. Most templates come with Photoshop created graphics which need to be edited. This means that you will need access to a graphics program that can edit them. Most modern templates use external style sheets which may again need editing. Although these can be edited in a simple program like notepad, doing so requires a good working knowledge of Cascading style sheets. Who Are They Really For?Templates make creating a website easy provided; you have the ability and tools to edit them correctly. Although they are pitched for use by complete novices I would say that they aren't really that suitable for beginners. They are best suited to those who feel comfortable using a web page/site editor and understand HTML, Cascading style sheets, Site structures etc. but don't have an eye or the time for good design. Good design in this context is the site appearance. That is.. does it look good. Some have it others don't, and I would class myself as belonging to the ones that don't.
