Web Designer- Common Tasks
Even if you decide that building a website is not for you and that you will give the task to a professional web designer it is still important to understand what most web designers do and of course what they don't do. Understanding a Basic Web PageYou can consider a web page to be divided into four main areas as shown in the schematic below:
The web designer is generally responsible for the red areas and you or someone else the yellow (content areas). Generally if you have your website made then the designer usually will do some basic pages like contact, home page and place the content in it. However, you will need to supply the content. Generally most designers will not optimise your content or will only do very basic web page optimisation. Depending on your industry the optimisation could be far more important that the site design. If you want more pages then the designer usually charges a fee for each additional page. In general most designers will also help maintain your site but will usually charge a fee either an annual one or based on the pages they edit/maintain. Ecommerce SitesAdding sales pages to a website is surprisingly easy and cheap when you only have a small number of items to sell and many web designers will be capable of doing this. Setting up and maintaining a online catalogue is more complex and time demanding and you should choose your designer/ design company with this as a priority.
