Starting A Blog

The first step in starting your own blog is to decide what you want to blog about.. your blog theme.

The next and them more difficult step is to decide what blogging software and/or service to use.

Before you can do that you need to understand the components that make up a blog and you have to understand the distinction between hosting your own blog and using a hosting service.

Once you are aware of the distinction you need to choose which one you will use.

Blogger and Wordpress

There are two blogging solutions I recommend that you consider and bother are free. They are Wordpress and blogger.

Blogger.com is owned by Google and is far the easiest to use and is the best choice for beginners and for personal blogs. You can use blogger.com as a hosted solution or you can host it on your own domain.

Again for personal websites/hobby sites the hosted solution is adequate. If it is for a business site or you intend to monetize the blog at all then you should host it on your own domain.

Wordpress is the choice for professional bloggers. Again it also comes in two forms .. a hosted solution and a self hosted solution.

Because it is has more configuration options than blogger.com it is more difficult to use, and hence I would only recommend it for serious bloggers, and would only recommend that you host the blog yourself.
